Coalition govt to decide date for elections: Ahsan Iqbal

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Planning and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal on Monday said the coalition government would decide that when the general elections would be held.

Talking to media, Ahsan Iqbal said the government had not yet decided on the elections and he would tell the nation whatever decision was taken regarding the polls.

Dressing down the previous government, he said it ruined the economy in four years.

“Those who destroyed the economy in four years are demanding accountability. The country was economically devastated because of the incompetence of the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI),” the federal minister said.

He said Imran Khan’s social media team was creating uncertainty. Imran Khan would not be allowed to spread chaos in the country, he said adding that Imran would be given freedom to do work, if he remained within the ambit of law.

Talking about dollar’s strengthening against rupee, he said to a certain extent dollar had a connection with the uncertainty. He said it was also linked with negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

He said the PTI government cut development budget by 50 per cent. After the movie of Naya Pakistan, the PTI had begun Azadi March’s film now, he said criticizing at the PTI’s movement against the incumbent government.

The PML-N leader said the government was trying to strike a deal with the IMF in which the masses were given maximum relief. He said the negotiations were delayed in a bid to put minimum burden on the public.

He also said the National Highway Authority (NHA) was asking for Rs460 billion for its projects, out of which Rs92 billion had been given.
