KARACHI: The Sindh government has decided to initiate an operation to combat water theft.

Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, the Sindh Minister for Local Bodies, announced this during a meeting in Karachi on Wednesday.

The meeting discussed how to prevent illegally obtaining subsurface water and the environmental consequences.

on the other hand,  Indus River System Authority (IRSA) on Wednesday released 164531 cu-secs of water from various rim stations with an inflow of 179881 cases.

According to the data released by IRSA, the water level in the Jhelum River at Mangla Dam was 1081.90 feet, which was 31.09 feet higher than its dead level of 1,050 feet whereas the inflow and outflow of water were recorded a 38165 and 33315 cusecs respectively.

The release of water at Kalabagh, Taunsa and Sukkur was recorded as 70479,73077 and 29465 cases respectively. Similarly, from the Kabul River, a total of 36000 cusecs of water was released at Nowshera and 20216 cusecs released from the Chenab River at Marala.

Earlier, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said that water shortages in Sindh have escalated to 40% due to a lack of water in the country’s rivers.

While speaking to the media in Dost Khan village in Sehwan Sharif and expressed worry about water distribution, saying that water should be given fairly across the country.

Due to a lack of water, the CM advised the farmers not to plant rice.

Moreover, while reprimanding the Sindh government on water shortage, Former Information Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry said that all the reports made it clear that PPP’s feudals are clearly complicit in water theft in Sindh.

The Minister went on to say that Sindh’s water does not reach the poor farmers adding that the farmers of Punjab and Sindh are both fed up with the Zardari mafia.
