ISLAMABAD: The government and people of Pakistan on Saturday extended heartfelt condolences to the government and people of the United Arab Emirates on the damage caused by heavy rains and floods in the Emirates, resulting in the loss of precious lives including five Pakistani nationals.

“We express our deepest sympathies to the families of the deceased and pray for the speediest recovery of those injured,” read a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Pakistan stands in solidarity with the fraternal people and government of the United Arab Emirates, the ministry added.

The Embassy of Pakistan in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General of Pakistan in Dubai are in contact with the UAE government and families of the affected Pakistani nationals. The missions have been directed to closely coordinate with the local authorities to extend full support to Pakistani nationals affected during the floods.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced up to Rs1 million for the families affected by flood and torrential rains in Balochistan.

Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday took an aerial visit of flood affected areas of Balochistan and viewed damages caused by recent monsoon rains.

The prime minister directed the authorities concerned to immediately set up a medical camp and supply medicines in the affected villages.

He asked the authorities for the provision of two more boats immediately to speed up the relief operations and ration in the affected villages.

Shehbaz Sharif also visited Jhal Magsi and interacted with flood-affected people in Shambani. He directed to accelerate relief activities and provide food and other relief items to the affected families.

The prime minister directed to ensure availability of veterinary doctors for animals as well.

On the directive of the PM, the Balochistan chief secretary dispatched teams in affected areas to expedite relief activities.
