PESHAWAR: A Police Sub-Inspector was martyred on Friday when unknown assailants opened fire in Bara, district Khyber, Bol News reported.

According to police, he was on his way to duty from home in Qambar-Khel area when the incident took place. He was rushed to Hayatabad Medical Complex in critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mehmood Khan condemned the firing on the policeman in Bara, Khyber. He expressed his condolences heartfelt sympathy with the martyr’s family.

He said police have made numerous sacrifices to protect the lives and property of the people. He added that the martyrs are our real heroes and their sacrifices will not go in vain.

It must be mentioned that at least four policemen had been killed in similar attacks in Bara during the last four months. An armed attack on a checkpost in Bara last week left a policeman and passerby dead.

Police officials said two suspected terrorists riding a motorcycle opened fire at the check post in Arjali Nadi and injured a constable and another man. Both succumbed to their injuries while being shifted to a hospital.

The incident took place when other policemen on duty at the check post had gone to a nearby mosque to offer afternoon prayers. Nobody claimed responsibility for the attack and no arrest have been made.

The martyred policeman, Said Karim, hailed from Shalobar tribe of Bara. Police termed it a targeted attack and said that investigations were underway to track down the culprits.

Police has taken notice of the rising attacks and beefed security of all check posts and relieved the police officials responsible for security lapses from their current positions.

District Police Officer (DPO) Jamrud said that police personnel posted at the checkpost in Arjali Nadi have been transferred to remote Tirah Valley for negligence.

DPO Mohammad Imran visited different checkpoints in Bara to observe security measures and issued instructions to the policemen. The policemen were ordered to stay alert and wear helmets and bulletproof jackets during duty timings.

They were also warned against using mobile phones and to keep a strict vigil on movement of motorcycles. They were warned of strict disciplinary action for negligence and failing to comply with instructions.
