KARACHI: A court on Tuesday suspended a judicial magistrate’s order regarding the exhumation of prominent TV personality Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain’s body for post-mortem.

Additional District and Sessions Judge East heard an appeal and annulled the judicial magistrate’s order to exhume Aamir Liaquat’s body. On June 18, the magistrate heard a petition filed by a citizen and ordered to conduct Aamir Liaquat’s post-mortem.

Advocate Zia Awan, who represented Aamir Liaquat’s heirs, said the order regarding the post-mortem has been cancelled. He said Aamir Liaquat’s children have been hurt and those who ordered the exhumation were not his well-wishers, but rather his enemies.

Aamir Liaquat’s ex-wife Bushra Iqbal said they have finally been vindicated and the order is a sigh of relief. She said derogatory posts were shared on social media and accusations were raised against them. She said action will be taken against Dania Shah and FIA is conducting an inquiry against her.

The deceased PTI leader’s daughter, Dua Aamir, had challenged the verdict given on a petition of a citizen by Judicial Magistrate (East) Wazeer Hussain Memon.

Aamir Liaquat’s family claimed that the petitioner had filed the application for exhuming the body for an autopsy over a political rivalry. They maintained that they might suffer an irreparable loss and trauma if the stay order against the exhumation was not granted.

The family had also challenged the magistrate’s decision in the Sindh High Court that had granted an interim stay against the exhumation of the body. The court dismissed the petition after both sides reached a consensus.

A citizen, Abdul Ahad, had initially filed a plea in the judicial magistrate’s court, seeking the exhumation and postmortem of Aamir Liaquat’s body to ascertain the cause of his death. Aamir Liaquat’s third wife Dania Malik also recently became a party in the case and demanded an autopsy.

On June 9, Aamir Liaquat was found unconscious at his home in Khudadad Colony in Karachi and was shifted to a private hospital in critical condition where he passed away.
