Turkiye to send humanitarian aid for flood victims in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has expressed his gratitude to his Turkish counterpart for the timely dispatch of a team for flood relief assistance.

In a telephonic conversation on Saturday, he apprised Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu of the enormous damage caused by the unusual rains and floods in Pakistan.

Bilawal thanked the Turkish foreign minister for immediately sending volunteers for help in rehabilitation after the floods. The foreign minister said Pakistan and Turkiye have always stood by each other in tough times.

Turkiye is preparing to provide relief to flood victims and will send a Turkish aircraft carrying humanitarian aid to Pakistan.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkiye said, “We are deeply saddened that the severe flood disasters, which are ongoing and intensified in the last few days in Pakistan, claimed the lives of many Pakistani brothers and sisters, and caused extensive damage.”

“We wish Allah’s mercy upon those who lost their lives, convey our condolences to the friendly and brotherly government and people of Pakistan, and wish a speedy recovery to the injured.”

“Turkiye has started preparations to extend the necessary relief to the Pakistani brothers and sisters who have been affected by the flood disasters and has planned to send a Turkish aircraft carrying humanitarian aid to Pakistan,” the ministry added.

Earlier, China expressed deep condolences to flood victims in Balochistan and Sindh and announced to provide emergency humanitarian aid, including tents and other urgently needed relief material.

Chinese foreign ministry’s spokesperson said State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed condolences to Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari since the floods in Pakistan.

The spokesperson said 4,000 tents, 50,000 blankets, 50,000 tarpaulins and other reserves provided by China and people’s livelihood cooperation have been put into the front line of disaster relief.

He said China has decided to provide an additional batch of emergency humanitarian aid including 25,000 tents and other urgently needed relief materials, and strive to deliver it as quickly as possible.

The Red Cross Society of China will provide emergency cash assistance of US$300,000 to the Pakistan Red Crescent Society. The spokesperson said China will continue to promote bilateral cooperation in disaster prevention and climate change and other fields.
