KARACHI Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman reacted strongly to the postponement of Local Government elections in Karachi and announced to approach the Supreme Court.

“The track record of PPP shows they don’t want to hold local bodies election,” he said while speaking to reporters. “The Zardari doctrine has prevailed and institutions have also joined it. PDM parties have also agreed with Zardari doctrine and postponed elections.”

He said the Sindh government is running away from the elections which have been postponed for the third time.  The Chief Election Commission is asking the government whether to hold elections or not. He is constitutionally empowered but not using his powers, he added

He also alleged that Karachi Administrator has consumed a budget of Rs15 billion on the pretext of repairing roads being built with poor quality material.

“Sindh government’s greed for money is not ending. Their banks accounts are been stashed with taxpayers money,” he said, adding that the main response for not holding municipal elections is corruption.

He said Sindh Chief Minister had promised that powers will be handed over to the local bodies which was never implemented. “The MQM came and sat in the lap of PPP. After colluding with MQM, PPP forgot all its promises”

He questioned whether a war is going on in the country that the army cannot do perform duties in the election “They are lying that the census of Karachi will be conducted again,” he said, adding that all political parties have united in their rivalry.

He said the Jamaat-e-Islami is still standing firm on the issue of Karachi census. We stand alone in the field against K-Electric, he added.

Hafiz Naeem announced they will approach the Supreme Court against the postponement of local bodies elections in Karachi.

He said the people of Karachi want local body elections to be held immediately. He said they will also protest on the streets against the postponement of local body elections. He said they will launch a huge movement on the problems of Karachi and everyone.
