ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Friday congratulated Qin Gang on his appointment as the new foreign minister of China.

“Heartiest felicitations to H.E. Qin Gang on his appointment as the Foreign Minister of China,” he wrote on Twitter.

The foreign minister said that he looked forward to working with Qin Gang towards taking the Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership to even greater heights.

China appointed Qin Gang was appointed as the country’s new foreign minister replacing Wang Yi. He is currently serving as Chinese ambassador to the United States since July 2021. Prior to the ambassadorship, he was the vice foreign minister.

Wang Yi was elected to the politburo of the Chinese Communist Party in October and is expected to play a bigger role in foreign policy.

Qin rose through various positions, including as the ministry’s spokesman and postings at the Chinese embassy in Britain.

A trusted aide of President Xi Jinping, Qin also served as the leader’s chief protocol officer between 2014 and 2018. He will now return to Beijing from Washington after 17 months as Chinese ambassador.

Bilawal also congratulated Saidov Bakhtiarov on being appointed as the acting foreign minister of Uzbekistan.

“Heartiest congratulations my dear brother Saidov Bakhtiarov on being appointed as Act. Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan,” Foreign Minister Bilawal tweeted.

He recalled Saidov Bakhtiarov’s warm hospitality during his visit to Samarkand. “Looking forward to working together to strengthen Pak-Uzbek relations in diverse fields,” the foreign minister remarked.
