Woman asks LHC for contempt proceedings against secy establishment
LAHORE: Woman has asked the Lahore High Court (LHC) to initiate contempt proceedings against the secretary establishment division for not fulfilling his undertaking about allocation of five per cent job quota for minorities in the armed forces.
The Christian woman, Faiza Mushtaq Gill, contends through her counsel Zeeshan Awan that the court in March disposed of a writ petition in light of an undertaking by the secretary establishment that the Recruitment Policy 2014 would be implemented with all prescribed quotas including for minorities.
However, the petitioner submits that the respondent failed to implement his undertaking as reflected in a recent media advertisement for recruitment of females as captain in Pakistan army.
She pleads that failure of the respondent to implement the settled laws and the policy of five percent quota for minorities in all recruitments amounts to sheer violation of the order of the LHC and sufficient for initiation of proceedings of contempt of court.
The woman asks the court to prosecute and convict the secretary establishment division for contempt of court and also order him to implement the undertaking.
The hearing of the contempt petition has been fixed before Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza for Friday (today).
In January, 2022, a Lahore sessions court had acquitted a woman arrested on the charges of blasphemy and desecration of a religious book and ordered her immediate release.
An additional sessions judge Hasnain Azhar had conducted the trial against Farida Bibi and announced his verdict after completion of recording statements and the witness.
“Keeping in view the material available on record, it is held that the prosecution has failed to establish charges against the accused-woman beyond reasonable doubts, hence, she is acquitted of charges,” read the court order.
