Electricity shutdown: Dastgir says power supply being partially restored

ISLAMABAD: Energy Minister Khurram Dastgir said electricity has been partially restored in several parts of the country including Islamabad, Peshawar, Quetta, Multan and Karachi.

The federal minister said at 7:34 AM, unusual voltage fluctuations in the North-South transmission corridor affected the system frequency of the National Grid and caused widespread breakdowns

He said the transmission system remained completely safe and no loss or damage was reported. He added there is power supply from Warsak Dam and Uch Power Plant.

The minister announced electricity has been partially restored in the distribution companies of Islamabad, Peshawar, Quetta and Multan.

He said restoration has been done in flood-affected areas and other parts of Sindh including Naushero Feroze, Larkana, and Khairpur Nathan Shah.

The minister said limited power supply has been also been restored in Karachi. He added that partial supply of electricity from Thar Coal Power Plant to K-Electric continues.

Dastgir said he is overseeing the restoration process at the National Power Control Center along with the Secretary Power. He announced the power system is expected to be fully restored by late night.

Earlier, Energy Minister Khurram Dastgir said that the government was hoping to restore electricity in the country by 10 PM

The country witnessed a power breakdown due to frequency variation in the national grid and left large parts of the country including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar and Quetta without electricity.
