LAHORE: Governor Punjab Baligh ur Rehman claimed that Chief Minister Pervez Elahi did not want to dissolve the provincial assembly.
Talking to the senior journalists, Baligh ur Rehman further stated that Parvez Elahi assured him to convince Imran Khan not to dissolve the assembly.
He mentioned the delay in the selection of caretaker chief minister. The governor said he has talked to Pervaiz Elahi and Malik Ahmed Khan for Caretaker Chief Minister, however, both rejected each other’s nominations.
He also announced that PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif is coming to Pakistan within a month whereas, Maryam Nawaz is also arriving in Pakistan in a week.
Later in the conversation, Rehman said the implementation of Governor’s rule was never seriously considered. He said general elections should be held within the stipulated period.
It must be mentioned said the caretaker chief minister shall be appointed after consultation with the Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition in the outgoing provincial assembly.
According to the Article 224-A, both the CM and the leader of the opposition should agree on an interim Punjab CM name with consensus. If the two leaders fail to reach an agreement, then two proposed names from each side will be sent to a parliamentary committee.
