PPP considering Murtaza Wahab, Najmi Alam as Mayor Karachi

• PPP will pick Murtaza Wahab for Mayor Karachi post
• Syed Najmi Alam’s name is also being considered
• Bilawal has expressed hope next mayor will be from PPP

KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) will consider the names of two loyalists for the post of Mayor of Karachi if it emerges victorious in the Local Government (LG) elections.

According to reports, Barrister Murtaza Wahab is the PPP’s top choice for the mayoral post. He served as Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) Administrator until resigning in December last year.

PPP is also considering the name of Najmi Alam for Karachi Mayor. He is a former MNA and former President of PPP Karachi Division.

Sources revealed Murtaza Wahab is the first choice of PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari if the PPP is in a position to pick the mayor after the elections.

PPP’s Syed Najmi Alam is contesting as vice chairman for UC-12 n Saddar Town. He is also contesting for UC-11. Alam is expected to be PPP’s candidate for mayor or deputy mayor.

He faces a tough challenge after contesting against Khurrum Sher Zaman, the PTI’s parliamentary party leader in the Sindh Assembly.

The PPP has expressed confidence in winning the elections in Karachi and electing the next mayor from the party. Bilawal has earlier said the next mayor will be a ‘jiyala’ from Karachi.

Last month, while addressing party candidates contest the polls, he said the next major will be from PPP due to the performance of KMC and the hard work of party workers

The PPP chief said the people of Karachi witnessed quick and efficient development work carried out in the city under his party’s administrator.

“The doors of the local body representatives were opened for the citizens. A world record has been set for the delay of the local body elections in Karachi,” he added.

He had directed the Sindh chief minister to keep the doors of the CM House open for the representatives of the local bodies after the polls as well.
