President Dr Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep grief and sorrow over loss of lives in a tragic bus accident in Lasbela, Balochistan.
In separate statements, the president and the prime minister expressed their condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the high ranks of the departed souls. They also prayed for the early recovery of the injured people.
The president stressed upon taking of practical steps to avert the occurrence of such like incidents in the future. The prime minister directed for provision of all available medical facilities to the injured ones.
Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also expressed his heartfelt grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives in a tragic accident.
In a condolence message, Bilawal Bhutto expressed sympathy with bereaved families and prayed to Allah Almighty for the high ranks of the departed souls.
He said the entire country was saddened over the tragic accident in which a passenger bus plunged into a ravine and caught fire. He said that an investigation should be carried out to ascertain its facts to avoid any such accident in the future.
According to reports, at least 40 people including children and women died when a passenger coach plunged into a ravine near Chanki Stop area of Lasbela on early Sunday morning.
A Karachi-bound passenger coach from Quetta carrying over 47 passengers plunged into a gorge and caught fire. As a result, 40 passengers, including women and children were burnt to death on the spot.
Bela Assistant Commissioner Hamza Anjum Nadeem said there were 47 passengers on board the ill-fated bus. He said that the deceased and injured had been shifted to the Civil Hospital, Lasbela while others will be shifted to Karachi.
Police said that the accident happened due to over-speeding as the bus went out of the driver’s control and careened into the ravine.
They said that teams of the fire brigade, rescue services, and law enforcement agencies’ personnel arrived at the site of the accident and launched a rescue operation.
