PTI candidates complain over ‘rigging’ in Karachi LG polls

KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidates have expressed reservations over the results of the Local Government (LG) elections in Karachi and Hyderabad.

The PTI was placed third in the polls after managing to secure only 46 seats in Karachi. The PPP emerged as the largest party after security 92 seats while the Jamaat-e-Islami won 88 seats.

A large number of PTI candidates gather at Insaf House and complained to PTI Karachi President Bilal Ghaffar about the alleged rigging by the provincial government.

The candidates also submitted evidence of rigging to the party. Bilal Ghaffar reviewed the election results, manipulation of figures, technical faults and other issues regarding the polls.

Bilal Ghaffar said he will soon inform the party’s next action plan. He said the mandate of the people of Karachi was stolen with impunity.  Even in the modern era, this mafia is blowing dust in the eyes of the people, he added.

He claimed they have concrete evidence in the form of written and videos regarding rigging in the election. He said that altering results is a favorite pastime of the PPP but they will not them get away with it.

“PPP should listen, this is not the budget, it is the people’s vote, they cannot usurp it,” said Bilal Ghaffar. “PPP will not be allowed to occupy Karachi-Hyderabad with a fake mandate.”

Meanwhile, PTI has decided to protest against the results of Karachi West District.  PTI leader Saeed Afridi has called an emergency meeting regarding the protest.

The PTI candidates for chairman, vice chairman councilors will protest at the office of District Returning Office (DRO) West under the leadership of Saeed Afridi.
