LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) held a protest on Tuesday against the appointment of Caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab Moshin Naqvi.
A large number of PTI activists gathered outside the office of the provincial election commission to protest against the decision to appoint Mohsin Naqvi as the interim chief minister of the province.
They raised slogans against the caretaker chief minister and election commission. “Mohsin Naqvi is not acceptable. Down with election commission,” they chanted.
PTI leaders Yasmin Rashid, Senator Ejaz Chaudhry, Shafqat Mahmood, Hammad Azhar, Azam Swati, and former Punjab minister Mian Aslam also participated and addressed the protestors.
They strongly condemned the appointment of Mohsin Naqvi as the interim chief minister of the province. The PTI leaders said the government can impose the chief minister on them but will be vanquished by Imran Khan.
During the protest, the party activists, including women, raised slogans against the government and the election commission. They demanded that Naqvi should be immediately removed from this post.

A day earlier, PTI chairman Imran Khan announced the party would stage protests throughout the country against Mohsin Naqvi’s appointment as caretaker chief minister of Punjab.
He said a protest will be held in Lahore followed by demonstration in Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Multan. Imran urged the nation to come out onto the streets to protest against the decision.
“We can’t accept a person who is following an agenda and has conspired against me in the past,” he said, adding that Naqvi played a role in the regime change conspiracy against his government.
Imran claimed that during his time in power, he received reports from the Intelligence Bureau regarding Naqvi’s attempts to topple his government.
He further said that former president Naqvi was a front man of Asif Ali Zardari. “You can now imagine what kind of a person he (Naqvi) is that Zardari thinks of him as a son,” he said.
He further said in 2018, Naqvi returned Rs3.5 million to the National Accountability Bureau and accepted that he had stolen money.
Imran added that Naqvi did not possess morals or a non-partisan character. He predicted that Naqvi would appoint police officials and bureaucrats who opposed the PTI and push the party in a corner.
He alleged that Naqvi would not allow provincial elections to take place until the electoral staff was replaced so that the former opposition’s win was guaranteed.
He added that the PTI would also approach the court against Naqvi’s appointment and the violation by the election commission. He reiterated that elections were the only solution to the country’s problems.
