ISPR refutes speculations on COAS Munir’s visit to US

• Pakistan Army had refuted speculations surrounding COAS Munir’s visit to US
• ISPR said the speculations on the visit are “baseless”
• It said the army chief is currently on a visit to UK

Pakistan Army had refuted speculations surrounding Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir’s visit to the United States of America, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

“There have been baseless speculations on social media that COAS is visiting USA,” the military’s media wing said in a series of tweets to end all speculations.

The ISPR added that the army chief is on an official visit to the United Kingdom (UK) from 5 to 10 February in connection with the 5th Pakistan-UK Stabilisation Conference.

It added the conference is a bi-annual event for military-to-military cooperation between the two countries. Senior Pakistan military leadership has been participating in the event since 2016.

Earlier today, Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch also denied any information about the army chief’s visit to the United States.

While responding to the question about the Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir’s visit to the US, she said: “We are not aware of the army chief’s trip to the US. ISPR could inform better on this matter.”

COAS General Syed Asim Munir arrived in the United Kingdom on a five-day visit to attend the Wilton Park conference and interact with the defence officials.

This is the army chief’s first visit to the UK after assuming office. He was expected to call on the country’s defence officials and chief of the general staff of the British army.

The army chief will attend a conference at Wilton Park in London. He is visiting at the invitation of the UK government and will address the 5th joint UK-Pak stabilization conference at Wilton Park.
