Pakistan Railways and two Chinese tech companies NORINCO International Cooperation, Easyway have signed an MoU to launch an app named ‘Railway Automated Booking & Travel Assistance (RABTA)’ to modernize the operations of the department.

Talking to media after the MoU signing ceremony at Railway Headquarters in Lahore on Monday, Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique said the RABTA app was one top solution for all travel needs where passengers can reserve hotel rooms, taxies and plan their food during traveling.

The minister said the agreement with the Chinese companies was totally based on the revenue sharing formula.

“There is a need to upgrade all the trains. One should not do such a work that the successors would bear the cost. The thinking of railway department is shaping along with the situation,” he said.

He said he had talked to the Ministry of Finance regarding salaries. They were formulating a policy for shops of railway, he said. The department had to provide opportunities along with generating revenue, he maintained.

Saad Rafique said the track between Sibbi and Harnai would soon be rehabilitated. The recent flood caused much damage to the railway, he added.

He said the ministry had opened railway office in Gwadar as well and appointed officers there.

Regarding the application, he said complaints of passengers would be resolved through the app and they could plan their travel with it.

“WE are fulfilling the requirements of the railway department. Hence, launching application to facilitate passengers,” he said.
