LAHORE: Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Punjab has summoned former provincial minister Hafiz Mumtaz Ahmed in a corruption case.
The anti-graft watchdog has started making cases against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders and the former excise minister is on the radar.
ACE Punjab unveiled widespread scams in recruitment of patwaris (revenue officers) after receiving bribe after which an investigation has been started against former provincial minister Hafiz Mumtaz Ahmed.
The PTI leader has been was directed to appear before the authority on March 11 (Saturday) at 9 AM.
According to the sources, each patwari was recruited by taking a bribe of around Rs2.2 million. A total of 27 patwaris were reportedly recruitment in Faisalabad, sources added.
Former provincial minister Hafiz Mumtaz Ahmed is accused of taking bribes to recruit patwaris and build paved roads in local government.
Anti-corruption has also summoned local government contractor Sarmad and sub-engineer Asif. It has also sought the records of all the development works done during the tenure of former provincial minister
In August 2023, former Punjab minister Hafiz Mumtaz Ahmad appeared on the radar of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
The anti-corruption bureau sought record of properties in the names of the PTI leader and his wife. The NAB sent a letter to the Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA) directing it to trace Hafiz Mumtaz and his wife’s properties in housing societies.
Hafiz Mumtaz was elected MPA on a PTI ticket from PP-105 in 2018 elections. He was inducted in the cabinet of Chief Minister Usman Buzdar as Minister of Punjab for Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control.
