ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has rejected the objections raised by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the prohibited funding case and decided to proceed with a show-cause notice.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) heard the case and pronounced the verdict reserved on December 20.

The ECP rejected the plea filed by PTI demanding cross-examination of witnesses and decided to proceed with the case with show cause.

During today’s hearing, the commission inquired about the IHC’s decision in this regard to which the body was told by PTI’s lawyer that the court had directed ECP to hear the parties.

Upon which CEC remarked the commission hasn’t been barred from taking any action.

“Let’s take this case forward.”

Earlier, PTI challenged the show-cause issued by secretary ECP Anwar Mansoor.

On the other hand, a banking court in Islamabad granted bail to Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in the PTI prohibited funding case under the Foreign Exchange Act.

The commission had issued a verdict in the funding case filed against PTI in August last year and held that the political party had received prohibited funding.

A notice was issued to the PTI in this regard.
