LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) dismissed a petition to initiate contempt of court proceedings against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz.
The court announced the reserved the verdict on the admissibility of the petition against the PML-N chief organizer for maligning the judiciary.
Justice Shujaat Ali Khan heard the contempt plea against Maryam Nawaz. The court declared the petition as ‘non-maintainable’ and dismissed the petition.
A contempt plea was filed earlier against the Maryam Nawaz in the Lahore High Court over her remarks against superior judiciary during her recent tour across Punjab.
The plea was moved by Advocate Rana Shahid stated that Maryam raised allegations at judges during his address in Sargodha and attempt to malign them without evidence.
The plea has pleaded with the court to initiate contempt of court proceedings against Maryam Nawaz for scandalizing the judiciary.
During Sargodha public gathering, Maryam Nawaz once again slashed at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and even accused members of the judiciary for supporting him.
The PML-N chief organiser said Imran Khan kept saying his government was toppled through a conspiracy, but the real conspiracy was hatched against Nawaz Sharif.
She lamed a “group of five” for the country’s current woes and said the judges should showed loyalty towards the law and constitution, rather than toward the PTI chief.
