ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet has changed canons of the Toshakhana department, Bol News reported on Tuesday.

As per the fresh rules, it would be responsibility of the public office holder receiving the gift to report it. Within 30 days of getting the gift or returning to the country, it would be must to report and submit it.

No public office holder will be able to keep gift valuing $300 or more with him. The public office holder can avail the gift valuing below $300 after paying the money through the prescribed procedure.

It will not be necessary to submit or report the edible items that can be rotten.

Officers of grade 5 or above cannot receive cash amount from any foreign personality. The cabinet division would seek services of experts from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to determine value of the gifts. The cabinet division would also get value of the gifts determined by private sector.

The new procedure of Toshakhana would apply on the president, prime minister and their families, Senate chairman, National Assembly speaker and chief justice of Pakistan. It would also apply on governors, federal cabinet members, attorney general, deputy chairman senate, deputy speaker National Assembly, provincial ministers, judges of Supreme Court and high court, members of the parliament and all the civil and military officials.
