RIYADH: Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman announced that Saudi Arabia will be celebrating ‘Flag Day’ on March 11 every year.

The announcement was made in a royal decree issued on Wednesday and the Monarch said that March 11 would be a special day in honor of the Kingdom’s National Flag, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

While issuing a directive to celebrate the Flag Day occasion, King Salman noted that the 27th of Dhul Hijjah 1355 AH, corresponding to March 11, 1937 AD, is the day when King Abdul Aziz endorsed the flag in the present form, fluttering with its great connotations that refer to monotheism, justice, strength, development and prosperity.

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman said that this decision was taken based on the value of the national flag extending throughout the history of the Saudi state since its founding in 1139 AH, corresponding to 1727 AD.

“The flag bears the Islamic declaration of faith in the middle, symbolizing the message of peace and the religion of Islam on which this blessed state was based, whereas the sword symbolizes strength, dignity, the height of wisdom and status.”

“For nearly three centuries this flag has been a witness to the country’s unification campaigns waged by the Saudi state, and the citizens of this country took from it a banner of pride and elegance,” the King said while emphasizing his faith on the great importance of the flag.
