ISLAMABAD: An accountability court has granted a two-day physical remand for Imran Khan, the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), in the Toshakhana case.

The directives were issued by Accountability Judge Mohammad Bashir during a hearing at Adiala Jail. Despite the accountability watchdog’s request for a seven-day physical remand, the court rejected it and approved a two-day physical remand for the former prime minister.

The pre-arrest bail plea of Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case was dismissed by an accountability court in Islamabad a day earlier. The decision was announced by Judge Muhammad Bashir, who had reserved the verdict on the pre-arrest bail plea.

On Monday, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) reserved its verdict on Imran Khan’s plea seeking the suspension of his conviction in the Toshakhana case.

Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Tariq Jahangiri heard the plea and reserved the verdict after arguments from both sides.

Imran Khan was disqualified by the electoral watchdog on October 21, 2022, under Article 63(1)(p) for making false statements and incorrect declarations. He moved the IHC against the decision on October 28 and later sought the withdrawal of the appeal on January 18, 2023.

The Toshakhana reference alleges that Imran Khan failed to disclose details of gifts he retained during his time as prime minister.

The Election Commission of Pakistan disqualified him for false statements and incorrect declarations, stating that he was engaged in corrupt practices under sections 167 and 173 of the constitution.

The ECP detailed that Imran Khan did not declare the cash and bank details in his returns, leading to his disqualification under Article 63(1)(p). Following this, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) initiated a probe against the former prime minister in the Toshakhana case on March 9.
