ISLAMABAD: Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari asserted that the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) aims to sideline their political opponents from the political arena.

Speaking at a public gathering in Qambar Shahdadkot, Bilawal claimed that numerous PPP candidates were denied the party’s electoral symbol, the “arrow,” due to pressure on returning officers from the PML-N. He declared the PPP’s intention to lodge a complaint with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) against such actions.

He extended sympathies to PTI voters, acknowledging that Chief Justice of Pakistan Isa had the option to issue a political verdict but chose not to.

Emphasizing the importance of holding timely general elections in Pakistan, Bilawal warned of severe consequences if the elections were delayed. Regarding the Supreme Court’s decision on the PTI’s election symbol ‘bat,’ Bilawal expressed the PPP’s stance, stating that they did not wish any party to be deprived of their electoral symbol.

Bilawal also made a promise to construct a dam on the Sindh border with Balochistan to safeguard the populace from potential devastating floods. He urged the elimination of divisive and hateful politics from Pakistan, urging citizens to participate in the electoral process instead of succumbing to hopelessness.

Earlier in the day, the PPP approached the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to express reservations about seven candidates from Punjab being denied the party’s symbol, the “Arrow.”

In a letter to Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Raja, In-Charge PPP Media Cell Taj Haider highlighted that despite timely submission of the party’s ticket, candidates from NA-58, NA-59, NA-122, PP-20, PP-21, PP-119, and PP-163 were allocated different electoral symbols instead of the “Arrow.”

Taj Haider requested the Chief Election Commissioner to instruct the relevant Returning Officers to assign the “Arrow” symbol to all PPP aspirants.
