Paragliding in Karachi is safe or not?
A concerning incident occurred recently in Karachi involving a gliding club that offers paragliding activities to residents of the Sindh capital.
During a paragliding session at the Karachi Gliding Club over the weekend, a woman experienced a life-threatening accident when she fell into the water. Unfortunately, there was no rescue team present on-site, and she remained in the water for 7 to 8 minutes before being saved by bystanders in a boat.
The lack of a prompt emergency response from the club or local authorities has drawn criticism, especially considering the seriousness of the situation. The woman involved is now in critical condition, fighting for her life in the ICU, as reported on social media.
According to one social media user, there are multiple companies conducting paragliding activities in the area, with the incident involving the green parachute belonging to the Karachi Gliding Club.
The user mentioned experiencing issues with the parachute not opening properly and difficulties with landing during their attempts at paragliding.
Given this incident and past tragedies, such as the 2018 Askari Park incident resulting in the loss of a teenage girl’s life, individuals considering participating in adventurous activities in Karachi are urged to thoroughly assess the safety measures implemented by the management before engaging in such activities.
