ISLAMABAD: Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has called for a National Assembly session on Thursday, February 29th, to conduct the swearing-in ceremony of newly elected MNAs.

This move comes after President Arif Alvi declined to do so, citing incomplete lower house proceedings due to pending decisions on certain reserved seats.

Under Article 91, Clause 2 of the constitution, the Speaker of the National Assembly has summoned this session. It is scheduled to commence at 10 am on Thursday, during which the oath-taking ceremony for the recently elected members will take place.

Additionally, the session will include the issuance of a schedule for the elections of the speaker and deputy speaker.

Earlier, Atta Tarar, a leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), called for the formation of a committee against President Dr. Arif Alvi, accusing him of violating the constitution and his oath.

Tarar emphasized that the assembly session must be convened within 21 days of the general elections, criticizing the President for failing to do so.

He further alleged that the President’s House has become a center for conspiracies and advocated for the establishment of a committee to address the alleged misuse of presidential powers.
