KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) acquitted Uzair Baloch and several other suspects in a case concerning an attack on policemen during the Lyari operation.

Uzair Baloch and three others, namely Muhammad Salam alias Mullah Nisar, Zakir alias Dada, and Ghulam Muhammad, were acquitted by the ATC after the prosecution failed to substantiate the charges against them.

The prosecution alleged that Uzair and the other accused were involved in an attack on a police team during the Lyari operation in April 2012. The case was registered against them at Kalri police station under the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997.

While Uzair Baloch, Muhammad Salam alias Mullah Nisar, and Zakir alias Dada were detained in connection with the case, Ghulam Muhammad was granted bail. The ATC directed the jail authorities to release the accused individuals if they are not apprehended in any other case.

This marks the 35th case in which Uzair Baloch has been acquitted due to the failure of the prosecution to establish the charges against him. Previously, Uzair Baloch and co-accused Zakir Dada were acquitted by the ATC due to insufficient evidence.

The charges against Uzair Baloch and Zakir Dada included an alleged attack on policemen during an operation against criminals in Lyari. However, the prosecution’s inability to provide concrete evidence led to the court’s decision to acquit them.
