Islamabad: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a warning regarding heatwaves expected in Punjab this month.

Following the warning, the authority advises the public to take precautionary measures to minimize the adverse effects of the anticipated increase in heat.

Pakistan is among the top 10 countries most vulnerable to climate change globally. In recent years, South Asian nations have faced unpredictable weather patterns, including irregular rainfall, flooding, and heatwaves, leading to significant loss of lives.

According to PDMA reports, temperatures are projected to exceed the average recorded over the past 30 years. Particularly, the plain areas of the province, including major cities, are expected to experience heatwaves during this month.

Furthermore, the department anticipates strong winds, dust storms, heavy rain, and hail across the province in April.

PDMA Punjab Director-General Irfan Ali Kathia has instructed local administrations to remain vigilant regarding seasonal fluctuations, as stated.

“The rescue organizations and district administration should prepare promptly,” the statement emphasizes. “Moreover, citizens should be informed about weather changes and advised on precautionary measures,” it adds.
