KARACHI: Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Pakistan has announced that the Moon for Zil Hajj has been sighted in the country and Eid ul Adha will be on Monday, June 17.

The announcement was made by of Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad, Chairman Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Pakistan in Karachi.

Earlier, Peshawar and Quetta zonal committees announced that the crescent was sighted in respective cities.

The moon sighting committee led by Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad was convened with members from central and zonal committees, as well as representatives from SUPARCO, the Met Office, and the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

Sub-committees in Lahore, Peshawar, and other cities also met locally to collect testimonies.

Eid ul Adha, which coincides with the Hajj pilgrimage, is set for the tenth day of Zil Hajj. Muslims in Pakistan are expected to celebrate this occasion on June 17, as the moon is likely to be sighted today. Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries began the lunar month, the last in the Muslim calendar, on June 6.

Earlier, Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries marked the beginning of lunar month, which is the last month in Muslim calender yesterday (June 6).
