Pakistan and UK sign LOI, join forces to combat crime and strengthen ties
The Letter of Intent (LOI) was signed between the government s of Pakistan and the United Kingdom in the presence of Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and his British counterpart James Cleverly.
As per details, after signing, law enforcement agencies and criminal justice issues can work on the same page.
The initiative will help both countries combat illegal migration and organized immigration crime while mutually cooperating on drug prevention, serious crime and organized immigration crime investigations.
The agreement will be implemented by a Joint Steering Committee comprising representatives from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the National Police Bureau, the British High Commission and the program team.
Advance planning for crime prevention, sharing of international criminal conviction data and analytics will be supported.
Improving joint cooperation in combating illicit financial threats, bilateral assistance in tracking crimes at air and sea borders will be possible.
The ability to facilitate extradition requests from the UK to Pakistan and from Pakistan to the UK will be improved.
The Letter of Intent will also help create awareness and understanding of the mutual legal assistance process in both countries.
The Memorandum also includes exchange of information, sharing of expertise, visits, staff training, joint projects, conferences, workshops and provision of specialized equipment.
Progress towards achieving the goals will be determined through an annual review.
During the meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and the British Interior Minister, cooperation was discussed to strengthen bilateral relations and solve problems jointly.
The Interior Minister said on the occasion that Britain is a long-term partner of Pakistan. Pakistan and UK government and public relations are at an unprecedented level.
The British Home Minister said that Britain attaches great importance to relations with Pakistan. Appreciate Pakistan’s cooperation in the evacuation of British citizens from Afghanistan.
He further said that the contribution of Pakistanis living in UK in cultural, social and economic fields is very important.
The British Home Minister appreciated the performance and services of Mohsin Naqvi as caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab.
Pakistani High Commissioner to the UK Dr. Muhammad Faisal, British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott and senior officials of the British Ministry of Home Affairs were also present on the occasion.
