Pakistan has taken a major step to boost its health and pharmaceutical industries under the leadership of Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal. The Minister recently held a high-level meeting with top executives from Chinese and German pharmaceutical companies to explore partnerships in local medicine production, technology transfer, and exports.

During the meeting, discussions centered on enhancing local manufacturing capacity and bringing advanced pharmaceutical technologies to Pakistan. The German company briefed the Minister on its ongoing diabetes-related projects and reaffirmed its long-term commitment to Pakistan’s health sector.

Meanwhile, representatives from the Chinese company expressed strong interest in research collaboration and affordable technology transfer. They announced plans to set up a modern production facility in Pakistan for pre-filled syringes, Semaglutide tablets, and GLP-1 (Ozempic/Monjaro) injections and cartridges, with an initial investment of USD 10 million.

Minister Mustafa Kamal welcomed these investments and said Pakistan is fast becoming a regional hub for pharmaceutical exports, serving markets in Afghanistan, Central Asia, Africa, and beyond. He encouraged both companies to submit a phased investment plan and assured them of full government support at every stage.

The Minister emphasized that the government aims to transform Pakistan from an importing nation to an exporting one by attracting global investors, supporting innovation, and promoting local manufacturing.

The CEO of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) also assured continued cooperation for smooth approvals and coordination through both in-person and online meetings.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with all parties agreeing to collaborate in building a strong, self-reliant, and export-driven pharmaceutical industry in Pakistan.
