The FIA Anti-Corruption Circle in Peshawar on Thursday arrested an impersonator, posing as an officer of an intelligence organization.
Accused Sajjad Hussain who was portraying himself as fake deputy director and used to take money from people, was nabbed from Haripur.
The imposter, who by profession is a motor mechanic, targeted government officials, coercing them into surrendering several tolas of gold under the pretext of conducting inquiries.
The arrest was made with precision as the accused, along with several fake officials, was found in a hotel during the operation directed by Deputy Director Saadullah.
The arrest was prompted by a complaint, and the FIA team apprehended the accused outside the NAB office in Peshawar.
The subsequent search revealed a cache of fake identity cards, a counterfeit FIA service card, and an arms license in the possession of the imposter. Additionally, two mobile phones were seized.
The investigation uncovered that the accused utilized social media to gather information about government officials.
Armed with this data, he would make fake inquiries, intimidating officers and subjecting them to harassment.
Disturbingly, the imposter had a history of exploiting female professionals, extracting gold and other valuables from lady doctors and female officers in the guise of conducting inquiries.
Furthermore, the imposter’s fraudulent activities extended to Haripur, where he deceived individuals by posing as an officer, acquiring mobile phones, cash, and gold through deceitful means.
The arrest serves as a testament to the vigilance of the FIA Anti-Corruption Circle in curbing fraudulent practices and protecting individuals from such impersonation and extortion schemes.
