Zardari called on Chaudhry Shujaat, Hussain
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Wednesday met former president and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari.
The meeting took place ahead of the session of the coalition allies called by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to take them into confidence over the political situation and the appointment of the next Chief of Army Staff.
Zardari inquired about the health of Chaudhry Shujaat and exchanged views on the current political situation and other matters. Federal Minister Chaudhry Salik Hussain also attended the meeting.
After the meeting, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Salik Hussain, and Tariq Bashir Cheema went to the PM House to attend the meeting of allied parties. The party leaders were received by the prime minister upon his arrival at the PM House.
The session is also being attended by PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Qamar Zaman Kaira, MQM’s Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and others leaders of coalition parties.
A day earlier, former president Zardari called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at PM’s House in Islamabad. They discussed the political and economic situation during the meeting. Zardari inquired about the health of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif after he recovered from the coronavirus.
The prime minister thanked the former president for the visit. Upon his arrival, Zardari was received by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif keeping in view the coronavirus SOPs and social distancing.
According to reports, both leaders discussed the appointment of the new army chief during the meeting. They also contacted PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif and JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has summoned a special session of the federal cabinet to discuss one-point agenda on November 24.
It is expected that the matter related to the appointment of the army chief will be discussed in the cabinet meeting. The prime minister is expected to approve the appointment of the new army chief after holding consultations with the cabinet members.
