While playing polo in California, Prince Harry fell off his horse.

The 37-year-old father-of-two was knocked down but quickly recovered to resume playing at the Santa Barbara Polo and Racquet Club.

The Duke of Sussex is flung to the ground in dramatic photographs, with other polo players rushing over to check on him.

Harry may be seen steadying himself on his knees before continuing the chukka on another horse.

Witnesses say the duke ploughed through three polo horses in less than an hour in a sport that is extremely taxing on the animals.

But Harry avoided embarrassment because his wife Meghan Markle was not around to witness his awful tumble.

Prince Charles, their father, also played competitive polo into his 40s before retiring in 2005 at the age of 57, having largely played charity matches since 1992.

Harry’s first public appearance since returning to Los Angeles from London following the Platinum Jubilee was at the polo match.

Despite being confined on the sidelines throughout the festivities, Harry and Meghan were able to present the Queen with their newborn daughter Lilibet on her first birthday.

It was previously reported that the couple had been requested not to bring a photographer to the meeting to document it.

This was assumed to be because the Palace didn’t want a photo of the Queen meeting Lilibet for the first time to overshadow the Jubilee.
