Unveiling a newly commissioned royal portrait required Kate and William to pay an unexpected visit to a museum in Cambridge.

The stunning painting is the first of the two of them done together.

Kate is shown wearing the emerald green Vampire’s Wife gown she wore during a visit to Ireland in 2020, while William is shown sporting a black suit with a white shirt and a blue tie.

For the next three years, the artwork by renowned artist Jamie Coreth will be on display at the university’s Fitzwilliam Museum. It was commissioned last year as a present for the residents of Cambridgeshire.

As they greeted the artist for the launch today, Kate and William appreciated his work.

William jokingly said that the work of art was “very enormous” and “wonderful.”

At St Andrews University, where the couple first met, the Cambridges both majored in art history, though William later switched to geography.

William admitted this week that he switched courses because he grew bored with his lectures.

He said: “I studied a bit of art history at university, had to give it up.”

“I kept falling asleep in the lectures. Terrible. We did a lot of Renaissance, which was amazing but then once we got into modern art, I started to get a bit dozy.”
