Among the investors behind Sir Martin Broughton’s ambition to buy Chelsea are Lewis Hamilton and Serena Williams.

The Broughton consortium is one of three bidders for the Premier League club, which is valued at £2.5 billion.

Seven-time Formula One winner Hamilton – an Arsenal supporter – and 23-time Grand Slam tennis champion Williams have offered investment in the effort, as reported by a foreign news channel.

Lord Coe, the president of the World Athletics Federation and a Chelsea fan, is also supporting the proposal.

After owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned, the Blues were granted a special license by the UK government.

Before being sanctioned for his alleged ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin following the invasion of Ukraine, Abramovich put the club up for sale.

According to the news channel, Hamilton and Williams were involved in the Broughton consortium’s bid from the beginning.

They wouldn’t be able to influence football decisions.

Other investors in the Broughton-led effort include the Rogers family, who operate Rogers Communications, a media and telecoms corporation based in Canada, John Arnold, chair of the Houston 2026 World Cup bid committee, and the Tsai family, who own two baseball teams in Taiwan.

Crystal Palace co-owners Josh Harris and David Blitzer have already endorsed the Broughton bid, with further funding coming from investment banker Michael Klein and Lord Coe.

The group is up against consortiums led by Todd Boehly, co-owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Stephen Pagliuca, co-owner of the Boston Celtics.

Raine Group, an American investment business, has been given the duty of selling Chelsea, and the UK government is anticipated to provide a new license allowing the club to be sold once a preferred buyer has been identified.

Any sale must be approved by a buyer who has passed the Premier League’s owners and directors criteria.

Several sources have informed that a decision on a preferred bidder is unlikely this week, but once one is chosen, the Premier League and government are believed to have little objection to any of the proposals.

Chelsea is now in third place in the Premier League and will play Liverpool in the FA Cup final on May 14th.
