Sri Lanka Cricket has added more experience to their coaching staff ahead of their upcoming tour of Bangladesh next month.

Following Chris Silverwood’s recent appointment as head coach of the Sri Lankan men’s national team, the SLC has now named former Sri Lankan cricketer Naveed Nawaz as assistant coach.

Nawaz will be a two-year member of the team, with his first international assignment coming up next month when Sri Lanka visits Bangladesh for a two-match ICC World Test Championship series.

The upcoming tour will also be the first assignment for newly appointed head coach Chris Silverwood, who will be joined by Nawaz as an assistant coach, Chaminda Vass as a fast bowling coach, Piyal Wijetunge as a spin bowling coach, and Manoj Abeywickrama as a fielding and support coach for the national team.

Between 1998 and 2002, Nawaz represented Sri Lanka in one Test and three One-Day Internationals.
