Scott Brown has announced his retirement from playing professional football.

The Celtic legend retired from playing this week and is now focusing entirely on his new job as a manager.

Brown, a member of the Celtic team that won the Quadruple Treble, left Celtic last season to play for Aberdeen this season.

However, after Jim Goodwin’s appointment, he left Pittodrie since his coaching influence was limited.

Brown, 36, has ruled out a return to football as a player after a few weeks and is instead “enthusiastic” about the start of a new chapter in management.

“It’s been a very difficult choice to end my playing career, but I’ll be 37 next month and I feel the timing is appropriate for me to declare that I’m retiring in order to focus totally on being a manager,” Brown told.

“It’s the end of one chapter but the beginning of another, and I’m looking forward to what the future holds.”

After Goodwin left for Aberdeen, Brown was extensively linked with the St Mirren post, but Stephen Robinson was chosen in Paisley.

The former Celtic captain has already completed his coaching qualifications and is hoping to take over in the dugout.

“Obviously, I will appreciate some fantastic experiences during my time at Celtic,” Brown concluded, “and none better than winning so many trophies during my years at Celtic.”

“So I’m overjoyed that the club is on the verge of reclaiming the title.”

“I know what it’s like to lift that trophy and how much effort it takes to win it.”

“I have to give Ange Postecoglou credit for the job he’s done in such a short period of time.”

“I hope the coach and the players enjoy every second.”
