Chelsea defended their Women’s FA Cup title and clinched the Double with a dramatic extra-time winner against Manchester City in front of a record crowd at Wembley Stadium.

After City had twice fought back from behind, Kerr kept her cool to sneak in a deflected winner.

Emma Hayes’ side, who won the Women’s Super League crown for the third time last weekend, led 2-1 in normal time before substitute Hayley Raso equalized in the 89th minute.

Erin Cuthbert’s magnificent shot had pulled Chelsea ahead after Lauren Hemp’s curler had placed City ahead on the stroke of half-time.

Throughout the game, City had numerous chances: Hemp was denied by Ann-Katrin Berger, Laura Coombs blasted inches over the bar, and Caroline Weir and Georgia Stanway both had efforts deflected wide.

Chelsea’s tenacity and willingness to put their bodies on the line were essential in their victory, as Jess Carter’s tumbling intervention in extra time prevented Ellen White from scoring for City before Kerr’s game-winning goal.

The Blues, who have now won the FA Cup four times under Hayes, celebrated completing the domestic Double in front of a record-breaking crowd of 49,094 fans.

It’s their second trophy in as many days, and it’s the ideal send-off for Ji So-yun, Drew Spence and Jonna Andersson, who have all contributed to Chelsea’s success this season.
