Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said that winning the quadruple this season is “extremely unlikely” after his team squandered two points in the Premier League title chase by drawing with Tottenham.

On Saturday night, the Reds were held to a 1-1 draw by Spurs as Luis Diaz equalized after Son Heung-second-half min’s opening. With a win or a draw against Newcastle on Sunday, Liverpool will retake first place on goal difference, while Manchester City will reclaim first place on goal difference.

Klopp believes his team failed to keep Son and Harry Kane quiet, despite the Tottenham duo having nearly a week to prepare for the trip to Anfield.

The Reds, on the other hand, were in European action on Tuesday, and won an entertaining but taxing match against Villarreal to earn their place in the Champions League final.

“I’m not happy, but not as sorry as the guys are right now,” Klopp told. “It’s my responsibility to explain why something like this happens.”

“It’s difficult because Harry Kane and Heung-min Son were completely rested. That is why the quadruple is so implausible; no one has ever done it in this country. We’re going to keep going.”

Liverpool won the Carabao Cup final on penalties against Chelsea in February, claiming the first big trophy of the season.

They’ll face the Blues again next Saturday, this time for the FA Cup, while Real Madrid has been announced as their Champions League final opponent after surprising City on Wednesday.

Reds appear to have a realistic chance of winning all three cup competitions this season, but the league – and an unprecedented quadruple – may be too much for them to handle.

Klopp is convinced of this, admitting that City will win all four of their remaining Premier League games against Newcastle, Wolves, West Ham, and Aston Villa.

The German continued: “I’d love to sit here and predict that City would lose points, but I don’t see it happening. I wish I could see things in a different light, but I can’t. But we’ll have to wait and see what happens.”

On Tuesday night, Liverpool travel to Aston Villa, who are managed by Steven Gerrard, an Anfield legend.

Their final game in the Premier League is against Southampton, and they will visit Wolves on the final day, completing a positive run-in.
