Oshada Fernando has been chosen in Sri Lanka’s 18-man team for the two-Test series against Bangladesh, with Pathum Nissanka still recovering from the back ailment that forced him to miss the second Test against India recently.

Oshada, who was left out of the India squad, returns following a string of excellent performances in domestic cricket.

Kamil Mishara, an uncapped 21-year-old top-order batsman who just made his T20I debut, has also been named in the team, along with Dilshan Madushanka, a left-arm seamer who is also uncapped and has been on Sri Lanka’s Test radar for a few tours.

Lahiru Thirimanne and Charith Asalanka have been left out of the squad alongside Lahiru Kumara and Dushmantha Chameera, the two pacers who will lead their team’s fast bowling attack at the T20 World Cup later this year.

Jeffrey Vandersay has been dropped after being named for the India tour but failing to make an appearance. Kasun Rajitha has been selected to the squad, having last played a Test in South Africa in 2020.

Ramesh Mendis (injury), Suminda Lakshan, and Asitha Fernando are all back in the squad after missing the India tour.

Roshen Silva, who was “included in the original squad but declared his unavailability to tour,” according to Sri Lanka Cricket, has been replaced by Kamindu Mendis.
