Famous cricketers from rivals India and Pakistan are set to play on the same squad as part of the rebirth of the Afro-Asia Cup, which is set to take place in mid-2023.

Last time the two teams competed together was in 2007. Next year, the competition is set to return, with elite players from both sides forming teams.

In the mid-2000s, the Asian XI included Pakistan’s Shoaib Akhtar and Shahid Afridi, as well as India’s Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid, while the African XI had players from South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Kenya.

According to the report, the updated version, which will be played in the T20 format, will be released in June-July of next year, with talks between Shah, Sumod Damodar, the new chairman of the African Cricket Association, and Mahinda Vallipuram, the ACC chairman of the development committee and an Associate Member director on the ICC board, beginning in April at the ICC board meeting.

“We have yet to receive confirmation from the boards. The white paper is still in the works, and it will be submitted to both boards,” Prabhakaran Thanraj, the ACC’s head of commercial and events, told.

“However, our objective is for the Asian XI to feature the greatest players from India and Pakistan. We’ll start looking for sponsorship and a broadcaster once the preparations are finalized.”
