Nottingham Forest and Liverpool begin discussions on a £15 million deal for defender Neco Williams.

The Wales international, who is a member of the group that has earned a spot in the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, spent the second half of the previous campaign on loan at Fulham, where he made an impression and helped the Cottagers earn promotion to the Premier League as the league’s champions.

Despite showing improvement, the 21-year-old scored two goals in 14 games. However, it is unlikely that he will stay at Anfield, as Jurgen Klopp has already signed young Scottish right-back Calvin Ramsay this summer.

Williams, a former Aberdeen player, will assist Trent Alexander-Arnold as his backup; this is the position he held before to temporarily joining Marco Silva’s team.

Following their victory over Huddersfield in the play-off final at Wembley, Nottingham Forest, who were promoted to the top division for the first time in the 21st century, have reportedly expressed interest in signing Williams.

Williams has played 33 times for Liverpool’s main team since making his debut in a victory over Arsenal on penalties in 2019, but only eight of those came in the first half of the season prior to his loan stay.

Another former Liverpool youth is one of the two Bundesliga players Forest is attempting to recruit.

Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi of Union Berlin is Cooper’s top priority in attack, and a club-record £17.5 million transfer cost has been agreed upon. Moussa Niakhate, a defender for Mainz, is also being courted, but a preliminary offer appears to have been turned down.
