  • Naomi Osaka has pulled out of Wimbledon because of a left Achilles injury.
  • Former world number one experienced the injury in Madrid last month.
  • Osaka was forced to miss the WTA 1000 competition in Rome in the build-up to the French Open where she lost in the first round.

Osaka had said after her loss at Roland Garros that she was not 100 percent sure if she could play on grass this season.

Last week she posted a video via virtual entertainment, saying: “Here’s me running on a submerged treadmill on the grounds that my Achilles is being obstinate still (sic) I should be maturing or something to that effect.”

She added on Saturday: “There’s something wrong with my Achilles so I’ll see you sometime later.”

The men’s ATP and womens’ WTA removed positioning focuses from the grasscourt Grand Slam after coordinators the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) chose to boycott interest by Russian and Belarusian players following Moscow’s attack of Ukraine.

Osaka had contemplated that playing in the major without the chance of procuring focuses wouldn’t help her positioning and the choice of the specialists had diminished her inspiration to play.
