  • Rehan Ahmed, 18, who has been called up to England’s Test squad for its match against Pakistan in December
  • Has been described as a “really unique talent” by England captain Ben Stokes

Should he represent his nation in Rawalpindi, Multan, or Karachi, he will break the record for the youngest male Test player in England’s history.

For Leicestershire, all-rounder Ahmed has played in just three first-class games, but in those three games, he has taken nine wickets and scored 195 runs.

“We regard him as one of those very unique talents, to have someone at such a young age be so obvious with the way he bowls and the way he bats,” Stokes said in an interview with Sky Sports.

Stokes said that Ahmed has to be developed with the national squad and that he still has a lot to learn.

“We are completely aware that he is not the finished product, therefore it’s critical that his inclusion not be overly scrutinised.

We see this as a chance to bring in and develop a player of Rehan’s talent, he continued. “In two or three years, who knows where he might be.

I’m happy to have him in the team, but we have the option to give him a Test cap if we so choose.
