UFC great Chael suggests Diaz fight Ferguson in final fight
Former UFC legend Chael Sonnen has encouraged Nate Diaz to face "ideal"...
Chael Sonnen says Sean O’Malley’s willingness to call out adversaries distinguishes him from Paddy Pimblett.
Millions of people have watched MMA battles featuring O’Malley and Pimblett because of the charismatic personas they represent.
Sonnen, one of the best speakers in MMA history, thinks the Briton seems uncomfortable calling out specific names.
For Sonnen, the key distinction between the two is that “Paddy’s not calling anybody out,” as he explained in a recent YouTube video.
I could name a few potential opponents for Sean [O’Malley], but I don’t see it happening for Paddy. Paddy is not a person who likes to be challenged.
I can name two or three potential opponents for Sean in his next bout. This past weekend alone, I overheard [bantamweight champion] Aljamain Sterling mention Sean’s name, and I watched Henry Cejudo call, Sean, out in a video. This isn’t something I’d expect to hear from Paddy, and while I’d generally say it’s an error, I don’t think that’s the case here.
Without Paddy’s input, it’s functioning, that much is clear to me right now. What’s going to happen with Paddy, I have no idea. Rematch between Paddy and Jared (Gordon) Gordon? That’s a sure thing. Don’t worry about it, and it’s good if Paddy wants to move on with his career.
There was also something between Paddy and Justin Gaethje, and you will eventually have to make a major life change.
Paddy’s been in there more than twenty times, and he’s not exactly a spring chicken, so I thought I’d let you know that while these ideas have merit, they weren’t born from anything Paddy had to say about them.
O’Malley is only a year older, but following a devastating knockout of former world champion Petr Yan, he has shot up into the top 10 of the bantamweight class.
However, Pimblett’s promotional career has only seen four fights so far. He is making about the same gradual development as O’Malley did in his early contests.
