Pakistan‘s all-around Shadab Khan has set a new record for most Twenty20 wickets in a single year. In the 14th encounter of the Big Bash League (BBL) on Saturday, the Hobart Hurricanes overcame the Melbourne Renegades by eight runs, with the help of their leg-spinner who got figures of 3-20 in four overs.
This three-wicket haul pushed Shadab’s 2022 total to 61, surpassing the totals of pacers Wahab Riaz and Haris Rauf and all-rounder Azhar Mahmood, who each took 60 wickets in their respective years (2019, 2022, and 2013).
During the game, Shadab took out three of the other team’s top batsmen: Aaron Finch, Jonathan Wells, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman. The 18th over was a pivotal one, and he only let in four runs.

The Renegades were bowled out for 114 runs, and the Hurricanes were able to successfully defend their 123-run mark.
In the current BBL season, Shadab has appeared in four games, accumulating seven wickets at an average of 14.7 and an economy rate of 6.86.
Shadab recently helped the Hobart Hurricanes beat the Perth Scorchers by eight runs thanks in part to a spectacular full-extension diving catch off one of his own bowling deliveries.
Perth Scorchers appeared to be in command with 18 runs to score in the last 12 balls and four wickets in hand, but a screamer from Shadab turned the game on its head.
The 24-year-old player has played in 224 T20 matches, giving him a wealth of experience in the format. Over the course of his career, he has amassed 2087 runs at a strike rate of 137.12 and 258 wickets at an economy rate of 7.21.
In addition to his six Tests, Shadab has played in 53 ODIs and 84 T20Is for Pakistan.
