Stafanie Taylor and Britney Cooper back to West Indies T20I
Stafanie Taylor and middle-order batsman Britney Cooper have returned to West Indies’ T20I squad. West Indies have named 16 players for the competition, which will serve as their penultimate preparation before the T20 World Cup. Shamilia Connell and Shakera Selman have returned from injuries to reinforce the pace attack.
Taylor has been out of action since retiring hurt in the second ODI against New Zealand in September, and thus been ruled out of the entire five-match T20I series that followed. Conversely, Cooper last appeared for West Indies in their September 2021 home series against South Africa.
“In the most recent series, we batted poorly against an excellent English bowling attack. We expect them to be able to back up captain Hayley Matthews in the top of the order now that several veteran hitters have returned “Ann Browne-John, who was in charge of making the selections, had this to say about the team.
“The team had commendable performances [during the four ODIs] in early 2022 in South Africa, and we know that the entire team will be drawing on that experience as they take on the home team and India in this tri-Series, and then potentially again at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, also in South Africa.”
