Jayden Seales among others receive international retainer contracts

• Seales received his first CWI international retainer contract.
• Men’s retainer system has been modified to grant contracts to players across all formats.
• Many veterans were excluded.

Jayden Seales, Obed McCoy, and Odean Smith have received their first Cricket West Indies (CWI) international retainer contracts. Brandon King, Rovman Powell, and Romario Shepherd enter the roster of 18, replacing Kieron Pollard, Fabien Allen, Darren Bravo, Evin Lewis, Rahkeem Cornwall, and Shannon Gabriel.

Allrounders Mandy Mangru and Jannillea Glasgow and hitter Rashada Williams have development contracts. Britney Cooper, Sheneta Grimmond, Shawnisha Hector, and Qiana Joseph are out and Karishma Ramharack is in.

There are a total of 36 players – men and women – on the list of those with contracts. This is in addition to the 90 players contracted to the franchise squads of the territorial board.

According to a CWI statement, the men’s retainer system has been modified for the relevant period “to offer player contracts across all formats of cricket, compared to specific red or white-ball contracts in previous years”.

This followed a performance evaluation from April 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022, using data from 2019-2020. CWI said: This allows for all players to be appraised immediately after the Evaluation Period and provides a notice period before new contracts start on 1 July 2022. The system is designed to reward hard work and performance results.”

Desmond Haynes, the head selector for the men’s team, stated, “”We think this is a dynamic group, with the right mixture of experience and youthfulness to properly represent the people of the Caribbean.”  General retainer contracts allow us a pool of quality and devoted cricketers to advance West Indies cricket.

Mangru, Glasgow, and Williams join Cherry Ann Fraser, Shabika Gajnabi, and Kaysia Schultz on development contracts.

CWI noted in its statement that “all players who are no longer awarded international retainer contracts are offered an A grade Regional Franchise Contract for the following year”.
