Arthur’s appointment as “online coach “opposed by Afridi
Mickey Arthur‘s appointment as a “online coach” was opposed by Shahid Afridi, who most recently served as Pakistan’s men’s team’s interim head selector.
Afridi revealed to the media on Monday that he had heard about the “online coach,” but he did not believe the concept would succeed.
“Yes, I’ve heard about it,” Afridi said. “I don’t get their [PCB] idea,” he added.
Afridi believes that there are several local coaches who can provide excellent leadership to the team. “Why are we continuously looking for foreign coaches? I understand PCB’s desire to prevent the favoring culture connected with the entry of locals. However, I believe there are a number of people that can provide significant leadership to the team “He said.
Within two weeks, the PCB management committee will complete the contract with Arthur, according to sources.
Arthur is anticipated to begin teaching till the ICC World Cup this year, which is slated to take place in India. Reliable sources informed The Jang that Arthur will only be accessible for a limited number of tasks on the ground. For this year’s 50-over mega-event in India, the former coach has promised PCB that he will travel with the team. He will continue to serve as a full-time coach for Derbyshire County Cricket Club in the interim.
The PCB management team, led by Najam Sethi, wants to hire Arthur because of his track record with the national squad and because his contract will be the first of its sort.
The South Africa-hailed coach, who guided Pakistan from 2016 to 2019, will also provide suggestions for the positions of batting and bowling coaches.
In Arthur’s absence, PCB will choose an assistant who will work with the team on the ground. The players will have access to Arthur online.
